THE ART AND THE ARTIST

Vickey Hanson stumbled upon photographs taken by Union Pacific to promote Sun Valley Resort. These promotional photos of the early days of the resort emphasize Union Pacific's vision in creating Sun Valley. So much has changed culturally since that time, yet the mountains and valley seem so familiar. Vickey felt these photos and this particular time in Sun Valley's history had not been discovered. The spirit of the past the characters and personalities who shaped the development of Sun Valley are brought to life for modern audiences in this colorful art.

What's intriguing about her art is that the subject matter is of the past yet the medium for creating it makes full use of modern technologies. Vickey scans the original black and white images into her computer, combines them with current landscapes and personal touches. She redraws and colors the image using an electronic tool box of airbrushes, pencils, paint brushes and colorful effects. The images are sent to a bureau where they're output to an Iris Printer. The Epson Printer has enabled the computer artist "to get off the Monitor" in vivid color and directly to archival watercolor papers.
